Managing Director Peter Thies was quoted in the Agenda article “Rookies of the Year: First-Time CEOs Are Taking Over.”
As companies continue to appoint first-time CEOs to take the reins this year, it's important for boards to adjust their onboarding processes for executives who don't have prior experience in the role.
"Most boards don't actually have a documented, well-laid-out CEO orientation or onboarding program," said Peter Thies, managing director with Pearl Meyer.
As a part of the process, boards should partner with new CEOs on what it takes to be successful in their role—helping them anticipate the unexpected and spend "time looking at how credible they are in the external world outside of the boardroom," Thies said.
Overall, "all of these things take a lot more time and energy than these guys might expect," Thies said.
