Median base salaries for executives at health systems increased 4.3%, compared with 3.6% for subsidiary hospital executives. Total executive cash compensation rose 5.8% at health systems and 4.9% at subsidiary hospitals. Size is a key factor, industry observers said.
“Those are two different jobs. One is running a $10 billion multihospital system. The other is running a significant business unit within that system,” said Alexander Yaffe, managing director at executive compensation consulting firm Pearl Meyer... Compensation strategies can change as a result of priorities. When executives are brought in to make changes, their incentives packages may then need to be realigned with the revamped organization’s new goals, Yaffe said.
