Medical group CEOs are increasingly important for ensuring a health system’s long-term success, said Alexander Yaffe, managing director at executive compensation consulting firm Pearl Meyer.
Organizations value the perspective that comes from familiarity with a medical group’s revenue dynamics, combined with an understanding of how clinicians work and think, Yaffe said.
Medical group leaders “are definitely potential candidates for broader administrative roles, which could eventually lead to system CEO,” Yaffe said.
